Cheating a bit, this isn’t really Tokyo, but actually Chiba, in a little town along the coast we call our second home, Ichinomiya. The restaurant called Super Kitchen is famous for American sized portions and wallet friendly prices. Case in point: this literal pile of maguro tuna with miso soup and a bottomless bowl of rice (yes, they will refill it if you ask) cost us a meager 900 yen.
That’s a lot of really nice looking tuna.
What is the dollar equivalent to 900 yen (approximately).
“900” automatically looks like a lot to me….even though I know it isn’t in this case.
Mary: The exchange rate to the US dollar is about 100 yen to 1 dollar, so $9. That much tuna in the US would probably cost about $25. Not everything in Japan is expensive (though many things are)!
Wow! That is a great price!
